DAWN RAY’D

Dawn Ray'd return this year with a groundbreaking new album; drawing together black metal, punk, soaring rock melody, tender moments of folk music and harmonized singing.

Their stunning new record, To Know The Light, is a high water mark for extreme metal, whilst also following in the lineage of anarchist bands like Crass, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Propaghandi and Chumbawamba.

Lyrically, To Know The Light traces the band's own journey through anarcho-nihilism; from anger, to despair, to a radical acceptance of the darkness all around us, settling on a new understanding of liberation and joy. (They encourage the listener down the same path, with a reading list of books on the cover.)

Impossible to define, beautifully imaginative and uncompromisingly brutal, this is both heavy metal and protest music entirely reimagined.

RAGANA

Ragana is a queer and female two-piece whose members alternate duties on drums, guitar, and vocals to produce some of the most unique and affecting dark music being made today.

Originally coming together in the DIY punk scene of Olympia, Washington, and now based in both Olympia and Oakland, Ragana draw upon a number of influences from the flora and fauna of their Pacific Northwest origins to the darkly nostalgic folk of Mt. Eerie and, yes, their Olympian forebearers Wolves In The Throne Room, synthesizing them into an experimental, highly idiosyncratic take on black metal.

Held together by an intense focus on raw emotion and haunting atmospherics, Ragana shifts seamlessly from tender, mesmerizing vocal harmonies to piercing, heart-ripping shrieks and back again. Heavy, dark, beautiful and punishing. Desolation’s Flower is their seventh album, out 2023.

Ragana Defies Genre and Gender on ‘You Take Nothing’”- Vice

“Earthy, enchanting, political music.” - Revolver

“There is a fragility in their sound, but that vulnerability is not masked by distortion; rather, it is amplified. The gods are silent, but Ragana still roars.” - Pitchfork, Best Metal Albums 2019

Support comes from Lancashire's own Bloodmores, with their own take on Thrash/Melodic Death Metal.
