HELEN MONEY:

Composer Alison Chesley uses the instrument to access and channel the extremities of human emotion, employing extensive sonic manipulation and an array of plucking and bowing techniques to summon an astonishing breadth and depth of sound.

A prolific collaborator, Chesley is equally at home in both New Music and Metal circles. Past albums saw her collaborate with Jason Roeder (Sleep/Neurosis) and Rachel Grimes (Rachel’s), and she has toured extensively with Shellac, Russian Circles, Earth, Bob Mould and MONO.

From her work in Verbow to her solo releases, extending to her work as a highly sought after collaborator with Jarboe, Bob Mould, Steve Albini, Neurosis and many more, Chesley has remained a singular voice and a pioneer in expanding the scope and perception of the cello.

“Mood music for the sci fi action movie in your head.” - Dusted Magazine

A-SUN AMISSA:

(UK: Gizeh Records / Consouling Sounds)

Website - slowsecret.com

Formed in 2011, A-Sun Amissa have been exploring the edges of some kind of avant-rock ever since. The quest to keep delving deep into new voids sees the project moving in and around a diverse chasm of melancholic drone, post-rock, doom and ambient sounds.

A-Sun Amissa is led by Richard Knox and has featured an array of members and collaborators over the years including Colin H. van Eeckhout (Amenra, CHVE), Jo Quail and Aidan Baker (Nadja) amongst many others. Recorded output has been released on Richard's own Gizeh label as well as Belgium's Consouling Sounds. Most recently A-Sun Amissa released their sixth studio album ‘Black Rain’ in 2020 and after a couple of quiter years working across several other projects, A-Sun Amissa returns in October 2023 with a new record and live shows.

"For Burdened And Bright Light is a mournful and monolithic LP that combines that weight of Sunn O))) with the Gothic majesty of Prurient." Norman Records

“A-Sun Amissa are a voiceless narrative, a captivating and obsessing experience” Everything is Noise

"The noise juxtaposed with the ambient guitars and strings allows the listener to experience similar emotions to what crash landing on an unknown planet or a near death experience may feel like.... disquieting, unsettling and down right scary in places; the perfect soundtrack to a H.P Lovecraft novel" Astral Noize

POWDERS:

Joshua Horsley and Carl Brown deliver the debut Powders album ‘Concede To Circumstance’ via Them There Records. Initially starting as an experimental live project of Cello (Horsley) and Electronics (Brown) the duo gained attention for their semi-improvised onstage performances. What began as sample-heavy collage music in 2018 slowly shifted as the pair crafted new live sets to embrace classical and noise music, always treated with an experimental spirit and minimalist sleight. ‘Concede to Circumstance’ is a refining of these ideas, a distillation of sounds and feelings, boiled down to a highly concentrated tincture made from extracts of live shows, film scores, jams and sketches.

Powders stripped back the set up for these album sessions, this time leaning more heavily on the use of granular synthesis with cello as the lead instrument and sound source. Horsley’s cello is processed in realtime as Brown mangles the signal into sonic debris in a raw synergy of expression that finds the soft hues of Fourthworld placed alongside course-grit distortion that resists the trappings of contemporary cello music. ‘Concede to Circumstance’ sees Powders exploring their hometown of Preston and it’s longstanding experimental underbelly - not as a location that demands escapism, elsewhere aspiration or an outward face but as a place and din to be.

As well as running the Label ‘Them There’ Carl also performs and produces as Preston Field Audio (2014-) and runs the private press label ‘Set Foot’ promoting site-specific sounds based in Lancashire. A 2019 collaboration with artist Keith Harrison received international press and across the board Carl’s work has received praise from The Quietus (Top ten cassettes of 2016) Tiny Mix Tapes (RIP) BBC 6 Music, Late Junction, Steve Barker (On The Wire).

Josh has been composing and producing works of experimental music and sound art for over a decade, with his works performed and exhibited Internationally including Tate Modern, Casablanca Biennale, The Canadian Music Centre and Karlsruhe Conservatory.
