SCALER

Formerly known as Scalping, Bristol's Scaler have quickly become known for blistering live performances and astute production, formed through a love of their hometown’s visionary off-the-wall dance music as well as full throttle noise and punk. Each show incorporates dark, hypnotic projected visuals, and bridges the gap between live guitar music and live electronic music.

Armed with a battery of squelching synths, animalistic rhythms and gritty, piercing guitars, the band have gained a reputation for their frenzied closing slots at festivals, delivering the most visceral audio-visual experience.

“LOAM”, the band’s collaboration with Daniel Avery sees the band lean further into their club and dance-based influences, combining adrenaline fuelled rhythms with euphoric synths that ebb and flow around their heavier sensibilities.

PVA

South London band PVA’s stunning debut BLUSH consolidates the beating pulse of electronic music with the raw energy of a life-affirming gig and reveals more about the trio than they’ve ever shared before.

The 11 blistering tracks from the group, Ella Harris and Josh Baxter (who share vocals as well as handling synths, guitars & production) alongside drummer Louis Satchell, are made from a formula of acid, disco, synths, the release of the dancefloor & queer-coded post-punk.

Their early gigs established PVA as key players in South London’s fervent indie scene alongside Squid, black midi & Black Country, New Road. Leading to slots at SXSW, Pitchfork Festival & Green Man plus tours with Shame, Dry Cleaning & Goat Girl. Even in their earliest iterations their existence beyond the confines of a traditional band set-up were clear. It wasn’t unusual to be able to catch them twice in one night, at Brixton's Windmill and again in the early hours DJing at Deptford’s Bunker.

They released debut single ‘Divine Intervention’ through Speedy Wunderground in 2019 with debut EP ‘Toner’ a year later via Ninja Tune. The EP featured a remix of ‘Talks’ by Mura Masa that picked up a GRAMMY nomination.

On their debut album PVA carry that same energy from the live circuit, while also building out a holistic world full of texture and heart. BLUSH is rich with industrial beats that pack a heavyweight punch, jagged punk spirit and moments of hushed contemplation from Harris’ poetic lyrics.

THE FERRET, PRESTON.

ADULT DVD: Influenced heavily by bands like LCD Soundsystem and Soulwax, their sound is dominated by the huge analogue synths which are intricately weaved around the tight rhythm section to devastating effect.

In the short time since releasing their debut single earlier this year in February 2021, the band have already gained a number of admirers, receiving support from BBC Introducing, Radio X (John Kennedy), and Amazing Radio in both the UK and US. Having recently played their first ever show at This Must Be The Place festival in Leeds (w/ Gruff Rhys, Bill Ryder Jones, Yard Act, Wet Leg) we are now offering further opportunities to witness their energetic live performances with new dates.

POSTPONED: Huey Morgan's NYC Block Party

Postponed until Friday 19th November 2021 - all tickets remain valid.

Tickets: skiddle.com/e/35784503

DJ, raconteur, author, producer, broadcaster and fun lovin’ criminal, Huey Morgan - a modern-day rock’n’roll renaissance man - is many things to many people.

As the whisky-soaked Lower East Side voice of 6 Music and Radio 2, he’s the man who joins the dots between funk, soul, disco, classic hip-hop and rock’n’roll. As a broadcaster, he’s the man who tells laugh-out-loud stories and talks to the listener as if pulled up on a bar stool next to them. And as a musician, he’s the frontman of legendary 90’s outfit Fun Lovin’ Criminals, a funk-fried indie outfit that broke big in the UK and sold over ten million records.

The late 1970s: The musical equivalent of the cosmic Big Bang, disco, hip hop and funk collided in an almighty collision in late 70s New York, with call and response choruses sat astride Get Down breaks and fast’n’furious hip hop mixing. It was a truly magical moment, and one that Huey captures perfectly with his funk-loving NYC Block Party.

The front man of Fun Lovin’ Criminals and a hugely respected BBC 6 Music DJ, Huey has perfected the sound over decades as an in-demand DJ and musician. Then again, as a music obsessive growing up in the Lower East Side of New York, he lived and breathed the sound and the fashion of the times, making him the perfect host for the NYC Block Party.

From Chic to Donna Summer and Kool and the Gang to James Brown via Grandmaster Flash and The Jackson 5 and more recent flavours like Jurassic 5, Cypress Hill and Michael Kiwanuka, Huey’s NYC Block Party is the sound of funk, soul, disco and hip hop jams battling it out on the dancefloor, a riotous celebration of the Good Times.

As The Sugar Hill Gang might have said: 'Huey will make you throw your hands up in the air like you just don't care.'
