Established in 2019, Whingefest was a daft idea born in The Ferret beer garden late one night. And here it is: the 11th edition of this biannual all-dayer. We've featured roughly 70 artists on the previous editions of Whingefest, including Loose Articles, Déjà Vega, IDLES (DJ), YAANG, Duvet, SLAP RASH, Pyncher, Peaness, Test Plan, Sly & The Family Drone, Mums, The DSM IV, Tits Up, Michael, The Battery Farm, Hauspoints, Gen & The Degenerates, Currentmoodgirl & many many more.

For this WINTER WHINGEFEST edition, the incredible line-up is:

STEALING SHEEP // SILVERWINGKILLER // dead things // dull. // Filthydirty // Skull Dust // Whinge

+ DJs TBA

STEALING SHEEP:

THE PROPULSIVE AVANT-POP REBELS OF LIVERPOOL BRINGING ENERGY BACK TO THE REAL WORLD

You might have stumbled across Stealing Sheep before-maybe their debut single 'Shut Eye' snuck into your feed as a rogue viral meme, lurking in the obscure corners of YouTube and TikTok catching your attention with their infectious avant pop, bold over the top visuals and gaming inspired looks that have gained the group a cult following over the years.

Hailing from Liverpool, UK, Stealing Sheep are a trio of Becky, Emily and Lucy - friends and bandmates of 15 years who have fearlessly carved out their own brand of pop championed through fan art and deep cut devotion. Drawing inspiration from everything ranging from online Therian and cosplay communities to multidisciplinary art of Jeremy Deller, KLF and Tracey Emin, Stealing Sheep presents a kaleidoscopic sonic manifesto that is addictive with its oddball pop and explosive aesthetics. Their self-described 'visual pop' might not have topped the charts, but it's fuelled a dedicated cult following (shoutout to the 6 Music dads keeping the faith!).

Now, they're back with a new album (GLO - Girl Life Online) and a new label (G-IRL - Girl In Real Life) - both marking a bold new era for Stealing Sheep. Produced by Joe Wills at Nan's House Studio, the new chapter presents a quintessentially idiosyncratic blend of musical inspirations ranging from medieval electronic pop to rave pop, UK garage, and PC music.

Unapologetically both otherworldly and DIY, the new album and the launch of their own label marks a new era for Stealing Sheep: it's a declaration of independence and a creative movement pulsating with kaleidoscopic joy and determination to bring energy back to the real world.

SILVERWINGKILLER:

Industrial. Punk. Chaos. SILVERWINGKILLER is a Salford-based duo, welding aggressive bass, live breakbeats, and multilingual vocals into wild electronic punk. Inspired by sci-fi, human culture, and deep-cut video games, SILVERWINGKILLER is the sound of experimental, raving psychosis. They played one of their earliest gigs at Whingefest VIII and since then have really blown up. We can't wait to see em again.

dead things:

dead things are a three-piece powerhouse embracing the grit of garage rock, while flaunting fractured riffs and infectious melodies. Hailing from Preston, dead things, have a catalogue of post-punk ditties about chilling tales of old Lancashire and horror movie final girls.

Their first vinyl single was released through Cracked Ankles Records and sold out in five minutes. It was named single of the week in Louder than War and then made two of their favourite artists lists!

Again, they played one of their first gigs at Whingefest VII back in 2023 - just great bands every time innit?

"[Terry Clark] is a sucker punch to the gut from a power trio who mean business. Definitely ones to watch" - Louder Than War

dull.

This new electronic noise & psych rock duo have been making a real splash in Lancaster & beyond - and now signed to the almost-ubiquitous CRACKED ANKLES of course. Plus they smashed their early doors set at Glastonferret this year, can't wait to see em at Whingefest.

"Pile driving riffs and sonic noise backed with a powerful drum / vocal onslaught. What's not to like?" - Louder Than War

Filthydirty:

The clown prince of Evil Blizzard (& label boss of Cracked Ankles) returns with his mystery guitar goblin.

'The glammed up weirdo FilthyDirty gets a bit bored, finds some unreleased Blizz tracks that didn't quite work at the time, fucks around with them a bit, dusts off his bass / electric drum kit and finds his way around some mental abrasive sound that blasts it way well over eleven.'

Skull Dust:

One part of Hauspoints, Skull Dust delivers miserable electronics from Chorley. Born from the death of some things, Skull Dust drags itself from the grave to spit out gothic industrial post-punk. Each set bleeds warped samples, pounding electronics and synth-drenched raw tension. Haunted noise for the end times.

WHINGE:

Aaaaaand, don't forget your cordial hosts & "expert curators": Whinge.

"Like the best bands; more a gang than a group." - Cracked Ankles

Post-punk & Psych informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge slam together influences from the Mondays to the Sabbath, ESG to LCD, Genesis to the Rapture.

///

The Orielles:

"You've got to die and be reborn between albums," begins Henry Wade, guitarist for The Orielles, describing the foundations of the band's fourth studio album, Only You Left. "It comes naturally," adds singer and bassist Esmé Hand-Halford, "it's not something we consciously do."

Through this process of creative renewal, the Manchester-based trio - completed by drummer Sidonie Hand-Halford - have managed to weather a pandemic, defy the fickleness of a trend-led music industry, and emerge, phoenix-like, with something familiarly Orielles, yet altogether different.

Recorded in two locations - Hydra and Hamburg - over the summer of 2024, the 11 tracks of Only You Left sees the band consolidate the bold experimentation of their previous LP, Tableau (2022), with a return to the more stripped-back, song-led approach of their early origins.

"There's nothing more trad than a three-piece," quips Henry, in reference to the band's decision to return to their roots as a trio. Originally from Halifax, the Orielles first came to recognition in 2018 with their debut album, the indie-rock Silver Dollar Moment, which is approaching its eighth birthday in February 2026. "These things come in like seven year cycles. So we've come in like a full circle back to a familiar place, just as different people."

By exploring binaries and contrasts, the Orielles are finding shapes in the chaos and confusion of the world around us - it's an undertaking that benefits from more than 15 years of close collaboration, driven by friendship and the artistic compulsion to find meaning in music.

///

Midnight Rodeo:

Nottingham-based 6 piece Midnight Rodeo released their debut album, "Chaos Era" (July 2025) to resounding praise from the likes of BBC Radio 6, DIY, KEXP, Shindig & CLASH. After taking their own brand of "joyous escapism" across the UK & Europe during autumn 2025, 2026 already has another UK tour, multiple European tours & a trip stateside caught on the Rodeo's lasso.

Extensive, relentless touring since 2023 (sold-out hometown shows, The Great Escape, Dot To Dot, and Kendal Calling) created a tight-knit family, their pleasure in playing as an ensemble is instantly evident on the album. When asked about this they'll explain, "We want people to tap into why we are always smiling on stage."

The songs are collaborative efforts. Their different musical backgrounds result in a genre criss-crossing and totally unique creative collisions. Bassist Harry says, "What we do is Dada-istic. The drums play hooks, the bass plays parts usually taken by brass, the guitar's playing West Coast psyche over disco rhythms."

///

Man of Moon:

Since their beginning Man of Moon have been a standout live act. The Glasgow-based duo possess an extraordinary talent for cross-pollinating genres and styles but their sound is not hybridised, rather they are a synthesis of their influences; a pure sonic distillation of what has come before. You hear the mesmeric drones of Mogwai, the dynamic shifts of Radiohead, the harmonic angularity of Tool, the industrial amalgam of Nine Inch Nails, even hints of Pink Floyd's austere and abstract lyricism. Man of Moon are so much music in one band. And yet they've always sounded uniquely themselves; there is deep intentionality in every song's construction.

PLUS MORE TBA - we can't wait to reveal the full line-up - but wait we must.

CURTIS ELLER'S AMERICAN CIRCUS:

Curtis Eller is a banjo player, songwriter and rock & roll singer. The lifelong show business veteran began performing at the age of seven as a juggler and acrobat, but has since turned to the banjo because that's where the money is.

His band, Curtis Eller’s American Circus, has developed a devoted international following based on spellbinding stage performances that combine a dreamlike vision of American history with silent film style, physical comedy, and explosive rock & roll energy. The iconoclastic troubadour has spent twenty-five years relentlessly touring the clubs, theatres and festivals of North America, Europe, and Australia.

This October Eller will return to the UK for a limited run of club dates, backed by a heavy-hitting, four-piece lineup of The American Circus featuring musicians from both sides of the Atlantic.

You are invited to run away with the circus when this little big top comes to town!

curtiseller.com

GIDEON CONN:

Gideon Conn is known for effortlessly blending acoustic folk and hip hop. His unique performance style never fails to impress. He has previously toured across the UK with the likes of Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Jason Mraz & Bunty. He has also made appearances at various festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival & Latitude.

FIRSTNAMEFRANK:

A man, a piano & some great songs: FirstnameFrank. He delights The Ferret crowd with his superlative song writing, and he’s back again for another tinkle on the ivories.

JACKSON WARD:

is a singer-songwriter inspired by the Country Music of years gone by, infusing it all with a young and fresh mindset, look and feel.

THE JIMI HENSON EXPERIENCE:

A touching live tribute to Jim, featuring banjos, puppets and acoustic mayhem.

VINTAGE CINEMA AFTERNOON from 3pm:

Curtis Eller's last album "Another Nice Mess" featured a sweet, sentimental waltz about the enduring friendship between Laurel & Hardy - so we thought it would be nice to play some old L&H features, alongside other greats of early cinema such as Buster Keaton & Charlie Chaplin. FILM PROGRAMME TO BE ANNOUNCED.

Charity Rave - Remembering Jonny Howlett

Remembering jonny howlett

A charity rave in memory of an unbelievable talent and friend.

On Friday 1st August, we host a party in memory of a beloved friend to all of us here at The Ferret and many, many people in Preston, Jonny Howlett. ♥️

Last year's event brought such good vibes to The Ferret, we just had to make it a regular thing - so we can honour Jonny's memory once again, and raise some money for charity in the process.

Jonny's friends have put together a charity rave - it's free entry (donations accepted on the door) and begins at 5PM all the way through to the wee hours, showcasing Jonny’s music - the music he loved and come of the tracks he produced alongside his friends.

🗣️Some words from Jadie - “It's going to be really special, so for anyone who knew Jonny l urge you to come and be a part of it, celebrating his life, his achievements, and reflecting on how he touched all of our hearts with his kindness, humour and unique personality!”

👉On behalf of Jonny's family, his sister Kirsty said: "As a family we remain devastated at Jonny's sudden death from an illness we were not aware he had. We are grateful for the continued support of family and friends.

“The event at The Ferret is a fitting tribute to honour his musical talent whilst highlighting and raising awareness for Amend the charity who supported us and helped us understand the rare illness that caused his sudden and devastating death."

💜

Doors open at 5PM and we will be partying till late! It is free entry but donations are requested, which are being raised for AMEND, (Association for multiple endocrine neoplasia disorders).

With DJs playing in the garden; the party then moves inside later in the evening, before the night ends with more DJs taking you through until 3AM.

DJs:

Nick Almond

Wilx

Acid Rockers

Tyramyx

& more

On the night, you can expect underground electronic music, including techno, house, ambient, drum and bass, jungle and more!

THE HYPERJAX:

After nearly three decades going strong. The Hyperjax are returning to Preston at The Ferret launching their brand new sixth studio album 'Scars on the horizon'

Expect a mixture of old and new songs, with whole lot of energy driven Rockabilly/Punk Rock and Psychobilly delivered by the band AND audience.

THE PINK DIAMOND REVUE:

“Spangly gold late 1950s LSD-inspired tripadelica” D S Audio

The Pink Diamond Revue are a battle between humanity and something more synthetic. Even the trademark ongoing onstage conflict-come-love-affair between guitarist Tim Lane and the mannequin Acid Dol takes on a sinister edge as he nudges her askew with his guitar or adjusts her shades between tracks. Musically and visually too The Pink Diamond Revue are a constant war between a golden age of American rock’n’roll and a dark, dystopian future. “We’re not a rock and roll band” intones the narrative over the duo’s signature tune. No, they’re something far more potent: a simply magnificent spectacle – all militant, monolithic beats, serrated acid-surf guitars, snatches of arcane narrative and sirens. Lane himself often resembles a Teddy Boy re-imagined by a malevolent future AI and you can imagine this music acting as the perfect backdrop to apocalyptic cinema.

THE BITTER LEMONS:

Garage rock 'n' roll from Birmingham UK. As featured in Vintage Rock Magazine and UK Rock and Roll mag!

Not Your Daddy's Rockabilly! 🍋

DEATH TRAILS:

3 different souls doing intense live shows and making diy recordings. A mixture of ethnicities, genders and sexualities with a shared love of punk.

THE PUNCTURISTS:

Female-fronted Melodic Garage Punk from Barnsley, using the power of punk to unseat you, to shake you up.

EYE SCREAM MEN:

Blackpool's finest purveyors of Goo-Wop, Bubblegrunge and other 3 chord punk merriment. Thick fuzzy songs of forlorn and love sick teenage melodrama, exploitation cinema, kitchen sink social scuzz.

SALLY PEPPER:

Punk singer-songwriter from the North West of England. Sally has played shows all over the UK, as both a headline and support act, nabbing support slots for acts including The Meffs, Pet Needs, Grace Petrie, Millie Manders & The Shutup, Sonic Boom Six and Roam.

Established in 2019, Whingefest was a daft idea born in The Ferret beer garden late one night. And here it is: The 10th one!

Featuring another amazing lineup:

SLY & THE FAMILY DRONE:

Working with a sound palette of scronked electronics, bulging noise blasts, wailing sax & Kalashnikov drums, the band digs deeper than ever to find increasingly potent sonic pockets.

Like many classic noise bands before them, Sly & The Family Drone choose to play on the floor of their venues whenever they can. There’s a different "atmosphere, environment and dynamic" when they’re up close to people and surrounded by amplifiers.

TEST PLAN:

test plan are looking for the sweet spot between dancing and moshing. Formed of Rory Dickinson, Michalis Fragkiadakis, and Max Mason, the London-based DIY trio cultivate a ferocious blend of noise-rock, dance-punk, and post-hardcore. Winds of overloaded guitar feedback and distortion are punctuated by crunching drums and throbbing bass, all bound together by howls of angst and chaotic energy. Their dynamic live performances beckon a meeting point where volume and energy collide - intense, visceral, and unfiltered, hitting like a punch in the gut: sweat-soaked, teeth-rattling, and gloriously unhinged.

HAWK OWL:

Neurotic Northern millennials staring the reaper in the face. A fuzzy blend of psych, dream pop and space rock, featuring former members of Tero Kulero.

SHINDIG:

These North East DIY punks played at Whinge’s album launch at The Rat & Pigeon, Manchester & we’ve been looking for an excuse to bring them to Preston since they blew the bloody doors off.

BOI TOI:

Synth and punk-driven 5 piece, playing songs about Guinness and love and the Northern Rail prices.

8-B1Tch:

Chiptune maestro 8-B1Tch bends circuits and minds, as his tiny machines take us on a cosmic voyage. Also featuring the glorious Golden B’stard on the drums (TBC).

WHINGE:

Aaaaaand, don't forget your cordial hosts & “expert curators”: Whinge.

A meeting of four jaded old friends from the underbelly of the north-west music scene, Whinge began as a cathartic outlet and an attempt to press pause on the unrelenting passage of time.

Fuelled by nihilism and a playful eye for self-deprecation, one pub conversation too many saw their myriad of musical backgrounds meet their unpredictable approach to life, with the end result: ‘Whinge'. Like the best bands; more a gang than a group.

Post-punk & Psych informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge slam together influences from the Mondays to the Sabbath, ESG to LCD, Genesis to the Rapture.

Over to Crackedankles Records:

"We knew the members of Whinge by sight from our local venue The Ferret where, it would seem, at least one of Whinge was in at any given time. Their debut gig was a kaleidoscope of conflict and charm that was intimidating and hilarious in equal measures. But underneath the chaos were really memorable, witty and well crafted songs portraying a unique palette of influences and the best front person we'd seen in years."

Crackedankles Records resides in the hot bed of the Ribble Delta that is Preston, Lancashire. Home of some amazing bands over the years that perhaps never got the breaks they would if they were in our neighbouring Manchester or Liverpool.

Crackedankles was set up primarily as an outlet for releases by Evil Blizzard, but quickly developed into releasing music by fellow idiots.

And now for the first time, Crackedankles Weekend takes place next May Bank Holiday, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd May at the best venue in the land: The Ferret - when most of the bands Crackedankles have had the pleasure of working with will appear in one massive sesh…

FRIDAY BANDS INFO:

SUGARSTONE:

They played Glastonferret this year, and I've never seen a band demolish a crowd so quickly. They're local lads, so we've seen them before... but they spent 12 months playing around the country and boy; have they toughened up!

We're releasing their debut album to coincide with the weekend; more news about that release closer to the time. If anyone's going to steal the show that weekend, it'll be these lads. Miss them at your peril.

BABOON:

For the uninitiated among you; Baboon are a sort of Preston Super Group. Alright; ‘Average’ group. Featuring members of Blank Students, Cornershop, Pete Zanussi & The Appliance Of Funk, Formula One and Evil Blizzard (what a pedigree!), Baboon will bring the joy. Guaranteed. When Blizzard first started, Side declared 'Blizzard won't wear masks, as that's what Baboon do'.

But when Kav joined Blizzard, he brought the masks and the rest is history.

So - Blizzard fans; get down Friday night too, and see where one side of the Blizzard tree came from.

WHINGE:

On the Friday we see the mighty Whinge. 'But they aren't on Crackedankles?' I hear you yell over the rooftops; well - they are now!

Chuffed to announce that their debut single and album 'Something's Not Quite Right' will be released in Jan/Feb 2025. Pre orders for this go live on Friday 6th Dec.

DEAD STILETTOS:

DELIGHTED to be able to announce that Dead Stilettos will be joining the Friday line up. Stooges Garage surf-sleaze with enough Manc to have you checking your pockets after they’ve waltzed past. If The Cramps had listened to The Fall instead of Screamin’ Jay, they’d possibly sound like this. Sassy, brassy and classy.

FILTHYDIRTY:

Filthy (the Clown Prince of Evil Blizzard) is doing a solo slot on the Friday, featuring new tracks from his forthcoming new album.

SATURDAY BANDS INFO:

EVIL BLIZZARD:

Crackedankles is their record label, so of course Evil Blizzard will appear! Evil Blizzard at The Ferret is always a big one. Last time they were here it was to headline Glastonferret 2023, before that they sold out 2 nights in a row to Save The Ferret.

MICHAEL:

The one and only MICHAEL who, coincidentally, just got a rave 8/10 review of their recent album in Vive Le Rock Magazine.
They’ll be making a noise and annoying/enthralling everyone on the Saturday.

POLYPORES:

Chuffed beyond words about TWO announcements.
I’ve been a huge, huge fan of Polypores since its very first inception, and have repeatedly hassled Stephen when I’m drunk about letting us release one of his albums.
We’ve finally beaten him down, and we will be releasing the new album ‘Cosmically A Shambles’ in conjunction of the Weekender gig at The Ferret.
Yes - we’re releasing a LOAD of new music next year.
Yes; we’re moving away from the ‘usual’ noisy Crackedankles stuff, but we all have varied record collections, and want the label to reflect this.
So - all hail Polypores. Marvellous stuff.

CHUM:

South London via Outer Space CHUM play on the Saturday.
Their debut album ‘Metaphysical’ was released a couple of years ago (less than 20 copies left on vinyl!) and this will be their first gig north of London ever.
They describe themselves as ‘Retrospective Prognosticators, Mindless Psychoanalysts, Charlatan Ritualists. Follow them, Join them, Stop them...only you can decide.’
They feature:
Marvin Gardens, Randy Burns, Johnny Utah, Sweet Pudding and Tomas.
They’re brilliant.
Buy their album on vinyl or cassette here:
https://chumandchum.bandcamp.com/album/metaphysical-2

TV FACE:

The mighty TV FACE, whose debut album came out just over a year ago - copies of this are running low on vinyl, so if you haven't got one, then don't hang about.

ZD GRAFTERS:

The incredible & hellishly acerbic Brum Noise Jazz outfit ZD Grafters. We often get asked by Evil Blizzard what ex-member Kav is up to. He's still making a racket, these days with his incredibly talented son Zac on drums.

'But ZD Grafters aren't on Crackedankles?' I hear you say. Well - they are now! Their debut vinyl release 'Three Little Birds' is going on pre-order on Fri 6th Dec.

EMPTY CUT:

Joining us on Saturday is the first non-Crackedankles band: Empty Cut from Birmingham, who are ace.

Fuelled by nihilism & a playful eye for self-deprecation, one pub conversation too many saw their myriad of musical backgrounds meet their unpredictable approach to life, with the end result: ‘Whinge'. Like the best bands; more a gang than a group.

WHINGE - SOMETHING'S NOT QUITE RIGHT

Debut album coming Feb 2025:

Whinge's debut album 'Something's Not Quite Right' is released on strictly limited edition vinyl & CD on Crackedankles Records, who have previously released Hotwax, Thank, Evil Blizzard, King Gizzard ATLW, TV Face, Hauspoints, Dead Things and more.

Preceded by the 7" single 'I Think I Found A Lump' - out in Jan - the album is released 7th February 2025.

As DIY as it comes, these first full length recordings were done in drummer Matt's mum's garage. "These sound great - I can't wait to hear you record them properly" the label said.

"These are proper. This is it".

Don't argue with Whinge.

Established in 2019, the idea for Whingefest came up as a joke one night in The Ferret beer garden. And here it is. The 9th one! It's mainly an excuse for local band Whinge to play with some of their favourite bands, old friends, and new discoveries. But you lot can enjoy it too right? Plus, this edition is an extra-special Whingefest as it’s also the launch party for Whinge’s debut release “Something’s Not Quite Right” on Crackedankles Records. More about that later. In the meantime, check out this dead good lineup…

>>>>>>>>> THE DSM IV:

“Somewhere between The Stooges primal garage punk and Suicide's screeching futurism...blistering dance-punk” - CLASH

Formed in Liverpool in 2018 by former Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster frontman Guy McKnight, THE DSM IV crystallise the ultra real and the otherworldly, bringing a focused hyperrealism to the party. Their convention-defying live performances toy with audience expectations and stimulate questions of the narratives being sold to us as news—or entertainment—all to the beat of the drum machinist.

“Hardcore acid Scouse...McKnight still has the ability to summon demons and bewitch with his hoodoo” - Electronic Sound

As if pontificating from a lectern, McKnight sings and gesticulates like his life depends on it, his lyrics enticing or lacerating depending on the mood the band conjures. In an age of perversion of reality, justice and truth, THE DSM IV poetically reflect on our world’s hypocrisies and dilemmas, with danceability, intelligence, indignation, grace, style—refreshing purity for these polluted times.

New EP NEGATIVE UTOPIA is released 31st January 2025 via 9x9 Records.

“A swirling sinister slice of goth pop...dance floor-filling Sisters/Mission dry ice shenanigans” -
Louder Than War

“A blend of The Fall, Suicide, Arthur Lee and acid house...dynamic and compelling” - The Quietus

linktr.ee/thedsmiv <<<<<<<<<

>>>>>>>>> MUMS:

“In the mutable realm of alternative music, where vibrancy clashes with cacophony and melodies flirt with dissonance, bands like Mums, rooted in the gritty landscape of Northwest England, show that longevity isn’t just about persistence—it’s about evolution.” - Idioteq

With their sound pushing its own boundaries, Mums drive deeper into the realm of thick riffs and earworm vocal lines, while ensuring the feedback always threatens to shatter speakers.

linktr.ee/Mumstheband <<<<<<<<<

>>>>>>>>> PILL FANGS:

Critically acclaimed songwriter Dan Haywood brings us Pill Fangs, channelling his love of New York 70s rock such as Lou Reed and Richard Hell. Haywood is joined by Lottie Baldwin on bass, Peek Freans on drums and Richard James Turner on synths, who produce a wonderfully jagged and amphetamine fuelled paranoid musical backdrop to the singer’s incisive, alienated vocals.

There is the slashing strung out guitar, the juddering drums pounding out like the drummer is trying to hit a fly on the skins, and the bass like a pacemaker going dangerously fast and worryingly slow. It’s the sound of too many late nights, not enough sleep, little daylight and the sense that the city is gonna get you in the end.

pillfangs.bandcamp.com <<<<<<<<<

>>>>>>>>> TV FACE:

The band called TV FACE are a gang-of-three from Lancaster. They are known for their ear-blistering and intense live shows, and described as “a wonderful trident of piercing guitar, bass and drums, unified by vocals through the torrent of hot noise, thunderous rumble and acid-scuzz” (Louder Than War). A classic three-piece, they have been compared to Mclusky, Brainiac, Minutemen. Gloriously, riotously, unashamedly angry, with a dash of indignation, and a soupçon of incredulity, their songs rage at the expectations of the keep-calm-and-carry-on-gang.

Their debut album Tide of Men was released September 2023 on Evil Blizzard’s label Crackedankles Records. It was named Louder Than War’s album of the week. The band are currently locked away in their hit factory in Morecambe writing material for their 2nd album, which they will record Spring 2025 and release on Crackedankles Records in September 2025. Two ltd ed lathe cut singles will be released in May and August.

linktr.ee/tvface <<<<<<<<<

>>>>>>>>> GAYLIPS:

The exact time that Gaylips was born has been forgotten. But, it might have been somewhere around the time when Carl and Jonny’s previous band imploded in its own Nu-Rave-neon-face-paint-please-like-us-NME bullshit which finally choked to death in the reduced section of Bedford Topman. But Carl and Jonny clambered out of the bargain bin, escaped the bad haircuts, and saw the glorious epiphany.

This is music with bayonets firmly fixed, a grenade rolled into a room, a final last hoorah before music is finally scarified at the altar of an AI algorithm.

gaylips1.bandcamp.com <<<<<<<<<

>>>>>>>>> MATERIAL GOODS:

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Nine Inch Nails, HEALTH, Deftones, IDLES, and How to Destroy Angels, Material Goods emerges as an electrifying blend of industrial electronic and post-punk influences.

linktr.ee/materialgoods <<<<<<<<<

>>>>>>>>> THOSE FKKKKKG SNOWFLAKES:

Jazzy Noisy Rocky Punky from Preston/Blackpool - released on Louder Than War Records and their own label ‘The Recording Industry Is Dead, Records’.

‘Those Fucking Snowflakes’ are a vibrant clash of left wing punk, noise rock and jazz tinged math, a band formed as a means to scream out the dread and horror faced in these terrible times of our modern society. From the current mess of the UK political system to the intolerance of, well, everything. From race and gender to such simple items as Greggs  releasing a Vegan Sausage Roll, the band are shouting about it backed with a tight unique sound and occasional off kilter humour.

"Deploying 1000 volts through the civility of discourse."

LOOSE ARTICLES

Recently winning themselves coveted, high profile support slots with the likes of New Order, Foo Fighters, The Lovely Eggs, and Gang of Four, the quartet are proudly presenting an alternative touring model with their own run of headline dates next year.

Specialising in discordant, hypnotic repetition, tales of nights out, and radical politics, Loose Articles are a punk quartet with plenty to say. Their music speaks to all those determined to get through the age of austerity with tongue in cheek, and two feet firmly on the dancefloor. Plying repetition (repetition, repetition…) with ragged edges and a sardonic, sarcastic drawl delivered with fierce, in your face, punk-fueled attitude, both feminine & threatening, Loose Articles are here to make a point.

Already heavily championed by Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music (where they’ve also seen strong support from Chris Hawkins, Tom Robinson and Amy Lamé) the band have also picked up love from John Kennedy at Radio X, appearing on the Evening Playlist, and have appeared on Spotify’s The Punk List.

Elsewhere they’ve been covered by NME as one of The NME 100 list, endorsed by punk friendly fashion labels Fred Perry Subculture and Underground England, named as one of Under The Radar Magazine’s 22 for 2022, and have appeared on BBC One’s Football Focus as keen amateur pundits and fans of the beautiful game. Kick Like A Girl was released around the Women’s 2022 Euros, with Shoot Music supporting key sporting playlists - alongside a request from Dave Grohl to support the Foo Fighters in Manchester.

SOUNDCHECK SHADOWING & Q+A:

Giving inclusive, intimate access and entry-level insights into the music industry, whilst supporting grassroots venues and northern creatives, the band invite you to join them on their musical journey. They will be sharing the secrets of what it’s really like to be in their shoes, and a part of the Loose Articles touring team, which includes female booking agents, crew, promoter, and management.

Although tickets will be available to all-comers for the shows, the KLAG project is aimed at primarily engaging young female and non-binary people (ages 14 - 25) from marginalised backgrounds and groups who typically aren't represented in the music industry. The band will illuminate the pathways into the often male-dominated music scene with community outreach locally via local community groups in each town including Lancashire Music Hub, Sound Waves Cumbria, More Music Morecambe and local Library Services.

Commenting on the project, the band say: “This is the second Kick Like a Girl tour and from the reaction we had during and following the last one, we feel more than ever the importance as a band to be doing tours like this. We feel passionately about making changes in the music industry to address inequality. We want to create a shift away in the industry we operate in from being white male dominated.”

“Across all the job roles that exist—from being in a band to being a sound tech, promoter, manager etc—we want to encourage young female and non-binary people to get involved and feel like they can succeed in this line of work. As a band our song topics touch on gender roles and overcoming the struggles of being a gender minority in a male dominated industry, so why not actually practice what we preach about in our songs and really try to make a difference? We want all of the gigs we play to be a safe space for all regardless of gender identity. Everyone is invited to get involved with the party!”

Part of the funding from Arts Council England will also be used to subsidise overheads for the venues, all of which are independent, often overlooked on the mainstream touring circuits, and providing a vital service to their communities, meaning ticket prices can be kept low and accessible.

If you are female or non-binary (ages 14 - 25) come along to shadow both the band and crew at soundcheck, and ask as many questions as you like afterwards. Your name will be added to the band’s VIP LAFC club, and you and a guardian/friend will be placed on a special VIP guest list that night for the show.

These special VIP tickets are free and available on a first come, first served basis.

Participants will continue to be part of the band’s music industry journey with early invites to tours, the opportunity to join a gig buddy scheme, attendance at special events, and they’ll signpost you to music industry opportunities that are happening locally.

In support of the project, Loose Articles will be expanding LAFC via Discord—an inclusive fan club with exclusive merch, big days out, and a way for an expanding network of fans to get involved with the band.

The ‘Kick Like A Girl Extra Time!’ tour comes just before the band embark on a summer 2025 festival programme both in the UK and abroad.

Come down to a show and join the LAFC of strong, like-minded, music-obsessed people!

For a free ticket to a soundcheck and Q&A please fill in the form at https://forms.gle/ZWfjV9HdBdKZQHDy6

Or send an email request with your name to: Alison Surtees at alison@almaisonproducers.net

Limited places so hurry! Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult (free places offered for guardians).

Tickets to the all-dayer are £5 - available via skiddle.com or theferret.live

With:

THE PRIMEVALS - canonised as 'Garage Rock Greats' by Stewart Lee who has included them in a series of shows he's curating in London.

The longer they go on, the more It seems like The Primevals are living up to their name, a missing link back to what we are only now realising was a glorious unrepeatable period of garage rock brilliance in the mid to late 80s, characterised by bands like The Gun Club, The Cramps and The Scientists.

Aa Stewart Lee said, "Glasgow’s gutterbilly veterans lay widescreen Americana and free jazz flavoured freak-outs over a durable garage punk template. Immortal and imperious at last, now The Primevals really are what they once merely dreamed of."

MARCEL WAVE -

featuring the guitarist and bass player from Sauna Youth and the other guys from the slightly less well-known Cold Pumas, backing up the striking wordscapes of Maike Hale-Jones. Early Fall is a definite musical touchstone. Album out on Upset The Rhythm records in June, Marcel Wave cannot be missed.

YAANG -

Forming in 2017 when Davey Moore (vocals/sampler) met Oliver Duffy (Guitars/vocals) at a rhythmic awareness class at the University of Salford - and later completed by Ben White (Ex-Working Men’s Club) on bass duties - the trio have steadily built their reputation for furious, high-energy, live shows, powered by the rocket-fuel combo of pulsating drum loops, clangorous guitars and a wicked sense of humour.

AUTOCAMPER -

Autocamper formed in 2004 to perform jangle pop shanties in exchange for free passage on merchant sailing vessels.

BIG BOY FOOLISH -

Big Boy Foolish are Ricky Dinneen and Liam Heffernan, a post-punk duo from Cork, Ireland. Ricky was famously in Five Go Down To The Sea?, one of the most shambolic and chaotic of the mid 80s indie acts, a time when there was a lot of competition for that accolade!

Five Go Down to the Sea probably started the nutty Irish boys Eire/London connection that eventually produced more successful acts Stump and Sultans of Ping in their wake. Applying the 'original is best' rule means that FGDTTS were obviously better than both of them. Big Boy Foolish plough a similar furrow to FGDTTS, meandering rambling music and off the wall lyrical concepts. Once you manage to tune into their frequency, it's an addictive proposition.

Big Boy Foolish rarely play in the UK and anyone with an interest in what John Robb has termed the 'Death to Trad Rock' scene should make sure they catch their set at Drastic Action.

Music | Big Boy Foolish (bandcamp.com)

THE BORDELLOS -

Psych-influenced ramshackle three piece from the North West of England, on a quest to upset and annoy as much of the music industry as possible.

THE TEARLESS LIFE -

Cultpop from the pagan valleys of East Lancashire & The Spaces Between Spaces. "...overlapping layers of voices carry drifting melodies that drape over the mesmeric musical fabric... Filtering pop-focused writing through a kaleidoscopic musical lens.” - Plastic Mag

BINGO BAY -

Bingo Bay are an alt/rock/pop band from Preston, formed in 2005 by singer/songwriter Kevin Cross. Catchy, melodic songs fused with elements of pop/punk/garage and funk with the odd ballad. 'We follow our own pathway regardless of fads and fashions.'

MARTHA MACLAREN -

Wonderfully discordant no-fi antifolk featuring intimate world building and great storytelling, with lyrics about visiting her grandma and the like.

- - -

+ Preston's own DJ DAVE CHAMBERS (ex-Cornershop & The Common Cold, currently UHR & Beach Mountain) on the wheels of steel / moulded plastic.

All Day Rave - Remembering Jonny Howlett

Remembering jonny howlett

An all day rave in memory of an unbelievable talent and friend.

This Saturday at The Ferret will be an all dayer in memory of our friend Jonny Howlett who died suddenly from an undiagnosed condition last year which affected so many of us in the community and in Preston’s underground music scene.

Jonny was unbelievably talented; he didn't just make his own music, but worked alongside some amazing artists, some of which will be showcasing tracks that they produced together live and also by DJ’s on the night!

It's going to be really special, so for anyone who knew Jonny l urge you to come and be a part of it, celebrating his life, his achievements, and reflecting on how he touched all of our hearts with his kindness, humour and unique personality!

Doors open at 3PM and we will be partying till late! It is free entry but donations are welcome which are being raised for AMEND, (Association for multiple endocrine neoplasia disorders).

Donations welcome: Click here to donate

Hope to see you all down there for a right good rave up that Jonny would be proud of!

On behalf of Jonny's family, his sister Kirsty said: "This weekend would have been Johnathan’s 46th birthday. As a family we remain devastated at his sudden death from an illness we were not aware he had. We are grateful for the continued support of family and friends.

“The event at The Ferret is a fitting tribute to honour his musical talent whilst highlighting and raising awareness for Amend the charity who supported us and helped us understand the rare illness that caused his sudden and devastating death."

A local radio presenter and DJ who worked closely with Jonny, Jadie Swales-Barnes, said: "He was unbelievably talented; he didn't just make his own music, but worked alongside some amazing artists, some of which will be showcasing tracks that they produced together live.

“You will also hear Jonny’s own music played by DJs on the night which has been put together by Nick Almond, a local DJ and event organiser who shared many years of friendship with Jonny and has rallied together friends, family and musicians who knew and worked alongside Jonny, to all have input on how the event will go - it's been great team work.

"It's going to be really special, we are welcoming all to come and be a part of it. We are celebrating his life, his achievements and reflecting on how he touched all of our hearts with his kindness, humour and unique personality!"

Doors for the event open at 3pm with DJs playing in the garden; the party then moves inside later in the evening for live performances, before the night ends with more DJ’s taking you through until 2am.

On the day, you can expect underground electronic music, including techno, house, ambient, drum and bass, jungle and more!
