Curtis Eller’s American Circus:

Celebrating American Independence Day with Curtis Eller: banjo player, songwriter and rock & roll singer. Eller is a gifted and prolific songwriter who's banjo-driven songs describe a dreamlike vision of American history where all points in time have collapsed into one.

A twenty-year show business veteran, Eller and his band The American Circus have developed a devoted international following based on dynamic, highly physical stage performances and an extensive catalog of curious phonographic recordings. The iconoclastic musician has spent more than a decade relentlessly touring the club, theatre and festival stages of North America and Europe.

The Jesse Janes:

Well loved Scousers and Irish lassies, The Jesse Janes, bring us a bluegrass, Americana & Country vibe, and have travelled to Norway, Italy and Ireland performing their energetic and quirky covers and originals alike. DUVET:

This Manchester group started in 2020 and wear their influences on their sleeves, sporting a strong riot girl sound and image. After a run of relentless gigging they have gathered a dedicated following alongside a sonic shift into more experimental elements of post-punk and 90s noise rock. The band still maintain a raw energy live with lead singer Grace Walkden’s boisterous vocals, a powerful rhythm section and lead guitarist Tasmin Stephens wailing melodies. With punchy bass lines and strong female vocals, Duvet’s sound is familiar yet unique.

YAANG:

Forming in 2017 when Davey Moore (vocals/sampler) met Oliver Duffy (Guitars/vocals) at a rhythmic awareness class at the University of Salford - and later completed by Ben White (Ex-Working Men’s Club) on bass duties - the trio have steadily built their reputation for furious, high-energy, live shows, powered by the rocket-fuel combo of pulsating drum loops, clangorous guitars and a wicked sense of humour.

BLEACH BOY:

Bleach Boy are a community minded collective of working class punks making Post-Everything music in Manchester. In 2017 they began to play in a damp basement with the aim of creating unfiltered and honest art.

Bleach Boy thrive in the live setting, bringing huge intensity and rawness to their audience, with Milo (vocals/rhythm) working his way into the crowd - riling them up whilst the rest of the band (Tommi/Sam/Cian) hunker down in the beat. Bleach Boy have played shows in various UK cities and have supported bands including Surfbort and BAMBARA.

“Within the rage and noise, there is a sense of fragility. Something that the human heart just locks onto and recognises. Once you do pick up on it, there isn’t any going back really. You’ll quickly become obsessed.” LOUDERTHANWAR

PYNCHER:

Pyncher are the very best of the Manchester underground: moody & playful post punk that's begun to delight ears nationwide. This Radio 6 featured outfit brings to life Ennio Morricone riffs and twangs with their new EP 'Chew' receiving praise from NME and beyond. Having only been gigging for a year, this young band have shot themselves into the limelight of the Manchester music scene, and are starting to make a name for themselves in London as well, after being invited by Damien Hirst to play The Troubador.

THE DEAD THINGS:

Brand-new band alert! We're pleased as punch to host the debut gig from this box-fresh NW Post-Punk outfit.

Sic Turtle: Vocals / Guitar
Gang Fish: Vocals / Bass
Ray Gun: Drums

NICK VENCIDO:

Opening the live-music portion of our all-day affair, we have a solo set of acoustic ballads, laments and ditties from the eldest of the Vencido siblings! Vencidos have a storied history in the Preston scene, and these songs have a lot to do with that legendary rep.

WHINGE:

Oh shit! Don't forget your cordial hosts & expert curators: Whinge. Having spent months inviting bands to play for you once again, they've promised to get back in the rehearsal room & get some songs ready too.

Whinge make noise with guitars, synths and drums. Plus shouting. Post-punk informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge slam together influences from the Mondays to the Sabbath, ESG to LCD, Genesis to The Rapture. Or something like that.

---

PLUS PLUS PLUS!

Plus, Beer Garden DJ Sessions from the nicest selectors in town: Frank Lovescenes aka Sabbath Soundsystem, Nodding Dog Disco and more TBA. Whinge will probably hijack the decks at some point as well, ruining your weekend with a lavish ape disco.

The finale of Preston Jazz & Improvisation Festival, “Jazzin’ the Park 2023”, is set to be a roadblock with an amazing line up announced. After a day in the park, we needed to deliver something special for those with the stamina to party, and oh how we have delivered:

Date: 10th June 2023
Time: 16:00-03:00hrs
Venue: The Ferret

Line Up:

Outside: 16:00 - 19:30hrs The Ferret Saturday Session with Cuba Ferret
Outside: 19:30 - 23:00hrs Bolts (So Flute/Melodic Distraction)
Inside: 23:00 - 23:50hrs Jazzbois feat. Dombeats - LIVE SET

This fringe event will open its doors at 16:00hrs, with Cuba Ferret providing the tunes in The Ferret's outdoor space.

Straight after Jazzin the Park 2023 finishes we have So Flute and Melodic Distraction's, Bolts, providing outdoor, sunshine tunes until 11.

From there, we'll move the party inside for a Live performance from Budapest's finest, Jazzbois feat Dombeats. This dope band has been hailed by everyone in the know. Spanning across Jazz and Hip-Hop beats, seeing is believing.

Next up, we have Alex FB, the young scratch DJ from Kaesu Collective who's been making some serious wave's on the other side of the Pennines, recently warming up for non-other than Slum Village.

And finally, we've been threatening to bring him over for years having attended the dancers' dance parties in Manchester, Community, Do One & Felabration, we have label owner, producer, events manager and DJ, Irfan Rainy to take us through the rest of the night.

This is an After Party to end after parties. Sheer quality from start to end.

Obviously, The Ferret is an intimate affair, so tickets are extremely limited, and with the numbers attending the day event we'd encourage everyone to get in quickly.

A closer look at the line-up:

GEN & THE DEGENERATES:

Degenerates by name and by nature...

This band is a riot of anthemic rock and aggression that brings a swagger, charm and presence to the stage making them one of the most memorable emerging live bands on the vibrant British rock scene. With a debut EP and fan favourite single Girl God Gun already under their belt, their upcoming UK Headline tour and everything coming next for the Degenerates will only further prove that fact.

Coming off the back of a packed year; touring with UK rock giants Skunk Anansie, a summer full of festivals including a much lauded 2000 Trees festival debut, and shows with fellow hot names in alternative: Crawlers and Kelsy Karter, the degenerates are here to drop a kaleidoscopic menage a trois of Post Punk, Garage Rock and impactful, socially conscious lyrics.

FLOWERS OF EVIL:

Manchester based Flowers Of Evil (Oscar Puente, Phia Sky, Ted Booth) are an LGBTQ+ fronted art-pop outfit, pairing new romantic flavours with industrial ‘80s goth beats to create something enamouring and unforgettable. Their postmodern theatrics provide an extra element of intrigue for listeners, and since forming in 2020 have collaborated with a number of artists from the queer community and far beyond.

20th May sees the release of their new single ‘Mop The Floor’ - via their own label and events brand Evil Things - in collaboration with Maria Uzor of the critically acclaimed duo Sink Ya Teeth. ‘Mop The Floor’ truly demonstrates what Flowers Of Evil are about - hypnotic, bass-laden synth provide the bones of the track, paired just right with Oscar’s beguiling vocal delivery and Maria’s add playful dramatics. Lyrically it comments on methods of tackling the mundanity of repetition, and welcoming in chaos to disrupt convention.

[SLAB]:

[slab] formed in 2019 in a basement rehearsal room in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. The murky grime and atmosphere of the rehearsal space influenced the band to write a bunch of moody instrumental post rock tunes, ranging from quiet introspection to full throttle blasts of drums, bass and guitar.

During 2021 the band spent time recording with Simon ‘Ding’ Archer (Pixies / PJ Harvey) at local studio 6dB and are in the process of finishing off their first album. The first EP ‘Ready for the Light’ has been released and is the best place to start getting acquainted with the band and their signature sound.

ready for the light motors into action….bursting its banks and delivering a thrilling widescreen post rock explosion” (ManchesterMusic.co.uk)

“an extraordinary piece of music” (Guy Garvey BBC 6 Music)

LIAM REILLY (The Forensics):

Fresh from a main stage performance with his band The Forensics at the Preston Pride Concert in the afternoon, Liam Reilly hops straight over to The Ferret to perform an indie-pop solo set.

Kole Cook is a musician and artists from Lancashire, England. He began his music career at the age of 17 and began creating acoustic pieces from his hometown bedroom. Later, he began gaining popularity for his music with a singer-songwriter feel with electronic aspects interwoven together. This mixture is what he creates most of his music on the basis of and thus creating his unique sound.
